All About Me
I began my martial arts career in the mid 70’s, when I was maybe 15, with some Judo lessons, but life got in the way, with work, college, family… but I continued to stay fit, hoping one day I could return to training.
Finishing school with an AAS in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, I repaired typewriters and computers for IBM, eventually retiring in 2022 as a Virtualization Administrator for a global healthcare company. Married in 1986, I have 2 sons, Stephen and Michael.
In 2010, I had my first back surgery, went through as much physical therapy as insurance would cover, and then my son’s friend invited him to join Pocono Tang Soo Do. He was only 10 at the time, so I had to drive him and while watching the class, I thought the exercise would be a great continuation of my PT. The next week, I brought my other son and we all signed up!
My older son, Stephen, completed his Cho Dan, my younger son, Michael, continued to E Dan, but just like the younger me, they went on to other things. As an Instructor, I continued on to Sam Dan, getting more involved with the school and association and competing in all regional tournaments. I certified as a tournament judge and continue to attend all events.
Throughout my martial arts career, I had another back surgery due to degenerative disc disease and shoulder repairs from other activities (baseball, ATV).
Outside Tang Soo Do, I enjoy working on cars, fixing just about anything, hiking, travel, camping… I am also an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 85 in Tannersville, PA.
Martial Arts is not about fighting - it’s about confidence, discipline, health and self-defense.
